SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Autonomous Organization of Culture of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (OAC) has celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the Reading Club of the Central Municipal Library with an act in which the writer Elsa López, Canary Islands Prize for Literature 2022, has given a memorial talk.
During the act, the Councilor for Culture of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Gladis de León, highlighted that during these 20 years “not even the pandemic has been able to beat him”. “After respecting the confinement, its members continued to meet, but instead of doing it inside the Library, they stayed in the TEA cafeteria to continue immersing themselves between the pages of their favorite books and escape for a while from what was happening in the rest of the day. world,” he explained.
In addition, the mayor has highlighted that belonging to a reading club “makes reading a book not something solitary, but shared.” “Its members, who are currently more than 60, read it, comment on it, praise it, criticize it, and share their experience of reading it.” This is fantastic because you discover how the same book in different people admits many interpretations, “she added.
The event, which paid tribute to all those who have participated in some way in the gestation and development of this club, included the participation of Elsa López, who offered the attendees a short talk entitled ‘Living among books’, after the a relaxed debate ensued.
“A whole life surrounded by books. Reading, writing, editing. Three ways to express my love for them. Books have always been in my life. I grew up with them and with them I learned to fight. With them I protect myself and with them I I defend”, assured the writer during its development.
Mª Jesús Pérez Hernández, head of the Reading Club, also participated, and the talk was presented by Mª Candelaria Pérez Galván, a friend of the Club and a writer.
