SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 29 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –

Starting today, Saturday, the Tenerife Fairgrounds will host the 6th edition of the Tricontinental Craft Fair, an international exhibition of manufactured works and traditional trades that this year will run until November 6 and in which a tribute will be paid to crafts linked to the carnival festivities of different countries.

The president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, stressed that the island of Tenerife “will be the epicenter of crafts from three continents for seven days, in which 160 craftsmen and women from thirty countries in Europe, America and Africa will meet, which represents the largest international representation at the regional level”.

Martín also highlighted “the opportunity that this fair represents to continue opening new markets for the commercialization of one of the most traditional sectors of the islands and to recognize, specifically, the important role that it has as a support for carnivals, both from Tenerife as well as from the rest of the world”, of which a wide representation in the venue speaks.

For his part, the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, praised the craft industry linked to Carnival, which is “one of the most important in the capital, as is this festival whose color is largely the result of of the good work of the magnificent craftsmen”.

Bermúdez invited visitors to the fair “during these days to stop by the 350-square-meter stand of Santa Cruz, where they will be able to enjoy a sample of what the artisan tradition means for this festival, which during the rest of the year they can enjoy themselves at the Casa del Carnaval”.

The island councilor Carmen Luz Baso pointed out that this is the first edition of this fair that is being held after the pandemic, “in which we can resume meeting spaces between cultures from different parts of the world and in which our craftsmen and craftsmen also They have a lot to teach and say.”

He added that, in addition to the Carnival of Tenerife, there will be a special space dedicated to three carnivals included by UNESCO in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, such as the Carnival of Blacks and Whites of Pasto and the Carnival of Barranquilla, both in Colombia; the Carnival of Oruro, in Bolivia, and the Carnival of Callao, in Venezuela. Next to them there will also be an exhibition space dedicated to Venice.

The opening act, in which the Councilor for Foreign Action of the Cabildo, Liskel Álvarez, and the insular director of Socioeconomic Development, Ermitas Moreira, also participated, included the celebration, in the central square of the Fairgrounds, of the show Harmonies of Carnival directed by Juan Carlos Armas and in which, through videos and musical performances, loaded with different musical groups, a review was made of the main carnivals in the world and the Canary Islands. The festivities of Venice, Colombia, Bolivia, Brazil, Uruguay and the carnivals of El Carnero in El Hierro, Los Indianos in La Palma and those of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also joined.

In the 160 exhibitors that are included in this fair you can find craft products from 14 countries in the Americas (Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Mexico, Honduras and Puerto Rico) , seven from Africa (Senegal, Morocco, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, Madagascar and Tanzania) and six from Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Macedonia and Turkey).
