The first day of the XXXII Princess of Asturias Trophy of cruise ships concluded with the provisional leadership of the Abama Resort Tenerife (Real Club Naútico de Tenerife) -in class ORC 1-3-, the Butxaca (Nautical RC of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) -in class ORC 4-5- and the Lancelot by Agustin Espinosa -in class ORC E).
The forecasts were not very encouraging in terms of the ideal weather for the development of the regatta, however the weak wind from the North with intensity of six knots that blew at the beginning of the day, remained during the first test, rising to ten in the second. The short wave helped the fleet to complete the courses and meet the regatta program planned for the opening day.
In the ORC group (1-3) where the largest boats are grouped, the Abama Resort Tenerife (RNCT) of Lucio Pérez Aranaz sails with a firm course to the final victory. He had no rivals on the first day, achieving two impeccable first. Felipe del Rosario (RCNGC) and Muyay de Aureliano Negrín (RCNA) alternated positions, being between them, the fight for the next places on the provisional podium.
The light wind conditions favored the presence of the lightest boats in the first positions of the classification in the ORC class (4-5). Joaquín Blanco’s Butxaca (RCNGC) kept up the good work, scratching the seconds necessary to optimize the compensated time and lead this classificationfollowed by the Jícaro (CM Radazul) by Jorge Miguel Salamanca and the kikere (RCNGC) by Diego Brito.
In the ORC E class, the most numerous with fourteen registered, Agustín Espinosa’s Lancelot prevails without cracks, taking two first places as well as Nona IX (CM Varadero)
by Alberto Caubinwith two seconds and the Coli de Roberto Garcia in third place of the temporary the latter tied on points with Maio (RCNGC) by Alejandro Martín.
