The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has decreed the return of the slaughterhouse starting this Sunday in the vicinity of the Market of Our Lady of Africa after the restrictive measures adopted by the Government of the Canary Islands to contain the COVID pandemic have ended. -19.
In the month of March 2020, with the declaration of the state of alarm, the slaughterhouse was suspended “and, a few months later, when the situation allowed it, from the City Council and to mitigate the difficulties of the merchants we authorized the temporary transfer of the 384 positions to a temporary locationl, located in the area of La Constitución and Marítima avenues, and complying with all mandatory sanitary measures at that time, ”explained the councilor responsible for the Economic Promotion area, Alfonso Cabello.
Now that the situation allows it, the trail returns to the location that is determined in the municipal ordinance, “which means the return to normality of one of the most important socioeconomic revitalization events in the city, since there are thousands of people which every Sunday meet in the same place between vendors and customers, exerting a pole of attraction for thousands of potential customers who travel to the center of the city”, added Cabello.
“This generates a movement of people and economics around the place of its celebration, benefiting not only the participants, but also the Market merchants, car parks, cafeterias and restaurants, public transport and taxis and other businesses located around” , he added.
Cabello wanted to remember that the City Council, over the last two years, “has maintained a continuous line of communication with the merchants and today we are doing it with the residents of the area with a mailing where we explain the traffic conditions on Sundays during the trace so that they are punctually informed”.
