SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 27 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, and the mayor of the La Guancha City Council, Antonio Hernández, inaugurated this Thursday the new facilities of the municipality’s Occupational Center, intended for day care for people with intellectual disabilities and which have been financed 70% by the island corporation.
Also present at the opening ceremony were the first deputy mayor of La Guancha and head of the areas of Social Services and Disability Care, María Auxiliadora Marrero, and the director of the Dependency Care Unit of the Social and Health Care Institute of Tenerife (IASS), Beatriz Duran.
As explained by Pedro Martín, this reform responds to a commitment made two years ago to improve the center’s facilities and provide more personalized attention to its users.
“We are very satisfied with the agreement between the Cabildo and the City Council to support those people who need it most and make investments that allow for an impact on the quality of care provided to them, as well as on improving their quality of life”, he pointed.
Pedro Martín also added that the center’s new facilities, which have the capacity to care for 32 people, “are an example of the social care model that the current island government group is developing with the aim of adapting services and infrastructure to the needs of the most vulnerable groups, to make their lives easier and help them integrate into society”.
In this sense, the mayor, Antonio Hernández, highlighted the effort made and thanked Pedro Martín and the island councilor for Social Action, Marián Franquet, for “the commitment made” with the reform of this center that will lead to an improvement in services .
“Not only will it improve the facilities, but also accessibility for users and families,” he said.
The works, which have been financed with 120,000 euros by the Cabildo de Tenerife, to which is added a contribution of 50,000 euros from the City Council of La Guancha, have made it possible to incorporate two adapted and accessible bathrooms on the upper floor of the center, a multifunctional classroom , a physiotherapy area and an office for the staff, collects a note from the Cabildo.
This center is part of the network of socio-health infrastructures co-financed by the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Government of the Canary Islands within the framework of the Dependency Agreement.
It has 32 places arranged by the IASS and all the users of the center participate in different workshops whose main objective is to improve their quality of life and their social integration, through training on the use of new technologies, road education, control and home monitoring or image care.
The facilities, which are attended by a multidisciplinary group of professionals, also include the necessary physiotherapy, mental well-being, psychological balance and health services.
