neighbors of La Asomada and Las Castrasin the northern town of The tankpresented this Tuesday, October 25, at the City Council a letter endorsed by some 140 signatures in which they request a pedestrian walkway, first temporary and later definitive, that prevents the area from being divided by the works of the island ring that are currently being executed in this municipality of barely 2,800 inhabitants.
The demands of these neighbors are that Las Castras street “is not left incommunicado by the path of the insular ring”, since it would especially affect them to be able to access public and school transport that uses a nearby stop. They also expect their street to have a proper connection to the TF-82. To guarantee this, they demand that a pedestrian walkway be built in Las Castras that guarantees “dignified and safe accessibility for all.”
In their letter they urge those responsible for the work on the section of the insular ring between The Tank and Santiago del Teide to build “a temporary pedestrian walkway while the work is being carried out so that you can walk through the area without risk.” Emilio Rodríguez is one of the residents affected and explains that, given the situation they have experienced and the lack of response from the administrations and the construction company in charge of the work, he himself was in charge of setting up a small access delimited with fences of works so that her daughter can go safely to the institute and also return home through the same area.
The tanker mayor, Esther Morales (PSOE), received this neighborhood letter and assures that since his government «this neighborhood movement of those affected by the works of the insular ring has always been supported. Before and now”. And he advances that “we have even achieved the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands that it will enable an overpass and a pedestrian path.” Morales adds that he will shortly reinforce this request by raising a motion to support these demands to the plenary session, which will later be transferred to the Regional Ministry of Public Works.
Esther Morales had already responded to some recent criticism from the PP with the announcement that the City Council of El Tanque had transferred to the Department of Public Works all the concerns of the residents of Las Castras and La Asomada streets and the rest of those affected, “because it is the competent administration in these works. And he advanced that “according to the latest conversations with the General Directorate of Road Infrastructure of the Canary Government, both La Asomada and Las Castras streets will be connected by an overpass for vehicles and pedestrians, something confirmed by the general director Joseph Louis Delgado».
The PP also denounced at the beginning of the month that the tankers residing in the surroundings of The Castras and La Asomada they had seen “their day-to-day life seriously affected, with situations that make it difficult for children to go to school or even such everyday issues as going to the supermarket or visiting relatives.” Therefore, from the PP they support those affected and understand that it is necessary to put an “immediate solution” to the difficulties that exist to get from this area of the municipality to the nearest bus stop.
The popular insist that the residents of these two areas cannot pass “in safety conditions between one nucleus and another, and they cannot even access the bus stop that it is located on the TF-82which is the main connecting link between this area and the rest of the island».
