SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 21 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla, the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, the mayor of San Miguel de Abona, Arturo González, and the insular director of Tourism, Laura Castro, visited this Friday the first phase of the new coastal promenade of the San Miguel Marina, in San Miguel de Abona, once the actions promoted by both public administrations have been completed with the aim of providing the area with a promenade that both residents and visitors can enjoy.

During the tour, Yaiza Castilla stressed the impact of this type of action.

“If we want to maintain the competitive value of the Canary Islands as a tourist destination, we cannot fall into conformity, but remain alert and active, not only to maintain our position against other competing markets, especially those with more recent development, but also to increase and extend the benefits that this sector produces in our economy to other productive sectors,” he stressed.

These two objectives, he said, “necessarily go through promoting excellence and betting on increasing the quality levels of tourist public spaces, and this not only to improve the tourist image of the Canary Islands, but also to optimize living conditions , both for the resident population and for visitors”.

Pedro Martín explained that this coastline “which is now recovered for everyone’s use” is only a first phase.

Thus, “the City Council continues with the second phase and the Cabildo de Tenerife will come behind to promote the third, with the aim of continuing to offer and recover spaces for citizens in something that is probably one of our greatest treasures, the coast of Tenerife”.

The island president assured that “this work meets all the requirements that a walk needs, it is accessible, it has space for different activities, such as those who come by bicycle or children who play in the playgrounds and, above all, it opens to the sea , removing barriers and allowing you to breathe and discover corners of the south of the island that have a very special charm”.

For his part, Arturo González was “satisfied” because “stages are being covered in the City Council’s commitment to improving access to the coast” and this walk “is an example” of these intentions.

“Fortunately, the collaboration between the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo and the City Council itself has resulted in this beautiful promenade that we are inaugurating today and that we intend to continue to carry out in order to make the coast of San Miguel a very attractive place for tourism and also for residents,” he said.

An accessible coastal promenade with a minimum width of 1.80 meters was designed for this area, designed to enjoy the sea by improving connections with the coast, which enhances the relationship with the coastline, with solarium areas linked to bathing.

To facilitate outdoor exercise, the area has been equipped with a bike lane with a minimum width of two meters and sports and games areas have been created, collects a note from the Government of the Canary Islands.

SHADE AND REST AREAS

Stops have also been created on the new promenade to offer pedestrians and cyclists shaded and rest areas, viewpoints and a sports program to fill the promenade with events that enrich it and enhance the strategic points of the coast.

In this way, the enjoyment of a landscape on which restoration actions have been carried out, expanding the green areas, and protection is also encouraged.

A kiosk with a terrace has also been installed to complete the leisure and entertainment programme.

The budget for the actions carried out has risen to 988,517.35 euros, of which the Government of the Canary Islands has contributed 901,801 euros and the Cabildo of Tenerife, 86,716.35 euros.
