The Cabildo de Tenerife processes the construction of nine centers for the elderly

The third vice president and insular counselor of Social Action of the Council of TenerifeMarián Franquet, highlighted this Friday the boost that has been given to nine centers included in the Social and Health Infrastructure Plan, “whose works will be tendered or executed before next June.”

Marián Franquet highlighted the work carried out in recent years to unblock the Social and Health Infrastructure Plan and recalled that “in 2019, despite having been approved for two years, there was not even a planning and organization to be able to execute it, which forced starting from scratch in many cases, devoting many hours to resolving multiple incidents of an urban and administrative nature”.

The counselor stressed that, today, the works of two socio-health centers in the north are already underway“to which we must add a third in the south, whose works have already been awarded” and it is pending that they can begin in the coming weeks.

One of the most advanced projects is that of the Santa Úrsula center, which will allow the creation of 70 new places, 40 residential and 30 day centres, and for which there is a budget of 534,312 euros.

Part of the work to expand three municipal management infrastructures in La Victoria has also begun.

Specifically, these are various actions that are included in the agreement that the Cabildo and the City Council signed in March this year, for an amount of 2.4 million euros to increase the number of dependency care places by 44, maintaining quality standards.

In relation to the southern area, the Minister explained that the works of the Abades Center, in Arico, with capacity for 76 residential places, have already been awarded and the forecast is that they will begin to be executed before the end of the year, with an investment of 3 .5 million euros.

Also in the south is the Guia de Isora center, whose works are expected to start in the first quarter of 2023.

The project, with 85 residential places and a budget of 2.3 million euros, is currently in tender, after it was detected that there was no industrial project available, which prevented the center from being provided with a minimum of basic services .

In this sense, Marián Franquet recalled that the drafting of the work project, carried out by the previous island government, lacked the industrial part, on which such basic services as electricity or hot water depend.

Within the planning of the Social and Health Infrastructure Plan, five other projects stand out whose tender is scheduled for the first half of 2023.

In this situation are the center of Garachico, with 112 places, the residence for people with autism in La Laguna, with capacity for 20 places and the center of the Santísima Trinidad, in Icod de los Vinos, with 140 places, the majority residential .

The Cabildo also highlights the two expansion projects planned in the centers of La Matanza and Candelaria for which the Cabildo has signed two agreements with the municipalities that will be in charge of bidding and executing the works.

The one in La Matanza will allow 90 places for dependent people to be expanded, while in the case of La Candelaria 46 new residential places will be created.

The counselor added that “the impulse to these nine centers sinvolves a total investment of 43.7 million euros with which 639 new places for dependent people will be put into operation and it will contribute to improving their quality of life and that of their families”.
