The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, announced this Thursday that before the end of the year the works on the pier being built in Masca will be completed to facilitate entry and exit by sea to one of the most visited trails on the island, a The new management model for visiting this natural enclave has already been implemented.
Pedro Martín has visited the new facilities together with the mayors of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide, Antonio González and Emilio Navarro, respectively, the island councilor for Natural Environment Management, Isabel García, and representatives of the company awarded the work.
The president has recalled in a note that since March the bed of the Masca ravine can only be traveled on foot and you must return to the starting point once the path is completed, but with the completion of this work “a new possibility is expanded that It consists of being able to go out to the sea once it is finished”.
“This is a demand of many years from the City Council of Buenavista del Norte and Santiago del Teide; This space must be taken care of and that is why we have been very exquisite in the treatment of the waste that the work has generated and in the way of intervening in this environment, and it will be completed before the end of the year”, said Martín.
The possibility of leaving the Masca ravine by sea had to be canceled due to the fact that the old jetty did not have all the security measures.
The work, which began last September, entails an island budget of 1.6 million euros and has included the preparation of the seabed and the placement of 46 prefabricated blocks that will serve as a dike to protect the new jetty, in addition to the installation of an aluminum footbridge that will connect the jetty with land.
The Minister of Natural Environment Management, Isabel García, pointed out that the construction of this pier “is a project with which we are committed because it is a long-awaited work by the citizens of Tenerife and although it has cost a lot to carry it out, we have taken care that it is respectful with the environment and solid and durable over time and that it serves so that the visit to the ravine is completed in a pleasant way by being able to go out by sea”.
The mayor of Buenavista del Norte, Antonio González, was satisfied with the development of the work and assured “that the start-up of this service will result in the reactivation of the northern part of the island, since a large number of tourists”.
For his part, Emilio Navarro, mayor of Santiago del Teide, also recalled “that the important project of rehabilitation and implementation of the new model of visiting the Barranco de Masca is an important tourist incentive for the municipalities adjoining the Parque Rural de Teno ”.
These works are part of the new services and improvements that the Cabildo has promoted in the area, including the investment of more than one million euros, with the participation of other public administrations, in the conditioning of the path of the ravine of Masca, and the signage and creation of a control and security service to limit the number of accesses and guarantee the safety and conservation of this natural area.
