SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Oct. (EUROPE PRESS) –
The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Security area, promotes the incorporation of volunteers to the Civil Protection services of the island with the intention of expanding collaborative networks in those organizations that are dedicated to complementing the work of firefighters, local police and emergency services.
The work of these volunteers in matters of security and Civil Protection materializes mainly through local groups linked to town halls, and the Associations of Civil Protection and Emergency Volunteers present on the island.
This campaign, which will be broadcast on the media and social networks, and whose message is ‘Be part of the aid’, is made up of a video and a radio spot and with it the aim is to “invite, motivate and involve people who who want to help in the public Civil Protection system, in emergencies, interventions in the environment, rescues and in all those actions that are also carried out by the firefighter volunteer team or non-governmental associations such as the Red Cross”, indicated the Minister of Management of the Natural Environment and Security of the Cabildo, Isabel García.
The counselor understands that “it is very important to strengthen island volunteering in these fields to have a society prepared to face any eventuality that may arise” and also believes that these teams “must be well trained and have resources.”
He also recalled that the Cabildo “promotes support for these voluntary entities, materializing it in the granting of nominative subsidies aimed at the acquisition of radio communication equipment and clothing, the carrying out of training courses in emergencies and Civil Protection, deliveries of Semi-automatic defibrillation, as well as the transfer of intervention vehicles for legally constituted municipal civil protection groups on the island.
For his part, the insular director of Security, Rubén Fernández, pointed out that “the public systems of Civil Protection establish their base in their volunteering, especially with a view to resolving major emergency situations.”
This citizen collaboration, he points out, “is fundamental and for this reason it is extremely important to reinforce the capacities that municipalities have through their groups through training and providing means and resources.”
The work of these teams is based on collaborating in the application and implementation of Civil Protection Emergency Plans as well as taking part in different preventive security operations, preferably local festivals, sporting events or other activities with large public attendance.
