We had to wait ten summers for the Ducks beachone of the busiest and most visited in La Orotava and in the north of the Island, finally has its staircase, after access was closed in July 2013 due to the poor conditions it was in and the risk of collapse.
After several delays, caused by landslides in the area, administrative difficulties and successive modifications, the forecasts made after the last visit carried out in May this year were fulfilled and the new staircase is now a reality.
This was confirmed yesterday by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, when those responsible were consulted on this matter, because the progress of the work revealed the end of a work whose reception It will be signed in the next few days.
Until this step is completed, the facilities cannot be opened and, therefore, the responsible counselor, José Antonio Valbuena, asks the public for caution.
The works, carried out by the El Rincón Consortium, include the construction of a staircase and a path that will facilitate reaching the coast, through a path that previously had impassable sections due to the detachment and sinking of part of the structure. This action is one of the main axes of Law 5/1992, of July 15, for the management of the El Rincón-La Orotava area.
Materials
The director explains that the development of these works has been complex, but highlights the fulfillment of the established deadlines and the effort to blend them with the environment and the use of environmentally friendly materials. “The conditions of the land have required a practically artisanal execution, since in this enclave it is hardly possible to work with machinery,” he said.
The mayor of La Orotava, Francisco Linares García, values the culmination of this long-awaited and demanded action, “necessary to guarantee the safety of beach users”.
Among the actions carried out is the installation of a metal mesh and a dynamic screen that will protect the path from the marine environment and possible landslides that may occur on the stairs.
The total budget for the work is 650,765 euros, financed by the El Rincón Consortium, which has received 175,000 euros per year in 2020 and 2021 from the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, in addition to a grant from the Natural Environment and Security Management area. of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife for an amount of 300,000 euros and the amounts corresponding to the Villero City Council, the three administrations that participate in the supra-municipal entity.
