The Cabildo de La Gomera has started the bidding process for the rehabilitation of the house of the poet Pedro García Cabrera, located in the area of El Palmar, in Vallehermoso. The Island Institution allocates 758,000 euros for the recovery of this heritage infrastructure and its opening as a space dedicated to culture and literature, according to the president, Casimiro Curbelo.
“After the total acquisition of this house and the drafting of the project for its conditioning, from the Cabildo we proceed to open the bidding process in order to continue advancing in the recovery and adaptation of this infrastructure that will allow us to have a space dedicated to the legacy cultural and literary culture of García Cabrera”, added Curbelo, while highlighting the coordinated work between the administrations involved to provide the financial resources necessary to carry out the planned actions.
Curbelo indicated that, with this rehabilitation, Pedro García Cabrera’s house will join the network of interpretation centers and museums on the island. Likewise, the reconversion of this house into a cultural space dedicated to the poet will be in accordance with the guidelines set by the Foundation that bears his name, “being able to count not only on his literary heritage, but also on that associated with elements of the context period during which he developed his work and his life”, he added.
For her part, the island councilor for Public Works, Cristina Ventura, explained that the actions planned in the poet’s house will allow the conservation of the two current heights of the infrastructure. The upper floor will house the main entrance with reception and two exhibition rooms, in addition to the services. While the ground floor will have a multipurpose area for workshops and a reading and creation area. All this distributed in the 224 square meters built available.
