More than 500 young gathered this Sunday, October 16, in the streets of the historic center of the town of La Orotava to show your art more than 8,000 people. The roads between Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Plaza de la Constitución, El Puente and Calle Carrera Escultor Estévez, Calvario and Avenida de Canarias they became an open-air stage in which different artistic disciplines were shown, from painting to sculpture, through illustration, music, dance or theater. Despite the threat of rain, the sun shone during the five hours that the XXIII edition of Young Street Art.
The Villero City Council highlights that young art it has become “a singular activity in which culture, art and fun are combined; the playful and the educational, which, in addition, help to economically revitalize the urban area, since the significant influx of public fills the bars, cafeterias and restaurants of this area of La Orotava.
The local government (CC) recalls that «Young Street Art was a pioneering initiative in the Canary Islandsand after more than two decades it remains with the aim of giving prominence to young villeros who want to show and share their work live in any artistic discipline».
In this year’s edition it was possible to enjoy arts such as painting, drawing, photography, theater, dance, puppetry and storytelling, live music, magic, illustration and graffitiin addition to numerous educational and practical workshops that allowed, for example, to decorate shirts with fabric paints, make bracelets, learn some balloon twisting, practice break dancing, learn some of the secrets of circus numbers, create games of three in a row with recycled materials, discover the shadow theater or design the most original emoticons.
The spectacular costumes shone parade about dragons, the painting on bodies by Carolina Pérez Hernández or the fast painting contest. Batucadas sounded, the battle of improvised rhymes and groups like Levendis or Duo Effimero.
