The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Javier Grill (PSOE), highlights the importance of this cider and, especially, of its main ingredient: the pippin apple. A traditional variety that is grown in the midlands of the island. Parrilla explains that “we started marketing Posma in February 2021 and, since then, we have sold almost 5,000 bottles, 1,247 of 75 centiliters and 3,360 of 33 centilitres». A quality drink that, according to the director, «is not the first time that it has been recognized and awarded internationally. In fact, it is the fourth consecutive first prize received from the International Gala Ciders Show», which is celebrated precisely in Asturias, one of the world cradles of cider.
From neglect to prestige
the mayor of sauzalero, Mariano Perez (CC), highlights that this new recognition shows that Posma is “an extraordinary cider that always achieves recognition abroad, although it is a little more difficult to market in the Canary Islands.” The northern president recalls that «Posma practically came out of nowhereat a time when pippin apples were normally abandoned on farms».
“For the municipality of The Sauzal, the pippin apple is the queen of the midlands and we have been betting on its conservation and enhancement for quite some time. These awards confirm the quality of Sauzalera cider, a project that began in 2005, but which did not become the commercial brand of the first cider made in Spain until 2011.
