As we anticipated in our Tuesday edition, the Canarian Coalition of Güímar held an extraordinary assembly on Monday, with the presence of about forty militants, in which the current mayor of the municipality, Gustavo Pérez Martín, was unanimously proclaimed as the CC candidate for the Mayor’s Office of Güímar ahead of the upcoming elections on May 28, 2023.

The assembly agreed by acclamation the candidacy of the current nationalist councilor as the only item on the agenda.

After his election, Gustavo Pérez Martín made it clear that “we have an experienced team in any political scenario and that means that this candidacy begins with a solid base that will respond to the residents of Güímar in any circumstance.”

The current mayor, who will repeat again as a CC candidate, assured that “our objective continues to be to improve the municipality and the lives of our neighbors.” “I am infinitely grateful for the trust you have placed in me, a responsibility that I assume with pride,” he said.

Likewise, he stressed that “we must continue to focus on the municipality and solving its problems. We are not going to take away even a minute of work from Güímar. I don’t believe in big electoral campaigns and promotional videos, because they take time and effort away from solving Güímar’s problems. I believe in daily work and that is the most important value of the CC team”.

Regarding the electoral list, Pérez made it clear that this debate has not yet been opened. “There is no debate on the electoral list because we have to be focused on the people of Güímar. The important thing is the team, not individualism or the assigned position”, he detailed, although the continuity of the current councilors is presumed (Haridian Martín and Juan Delgado, with the doubt of Magüi Campos) and the possible entry of Félix Fariña, currently counselor in the Cabildo by CC. “We have to continue structuring the future of the municipality taking its traditions, commerce, agriculture and nature as a reference. We are going to be next to our neighbors, to know their needs and carry out policies that help them improve their quality of life, and even more so in these times of economic crisis”, he stressed.

For his part, Francisco Linares indicated that “Gustavo is a young man, but with experience in government tasks, a serious, hard-working and responsible person, and I have no doubt that he will once again be a great mayor for the municipality of Güímar.” He recalled that in this legislature “Güímar has had a nationalist mayor for the first time in its history.” For this reason, he encouraged Pérez to continue with the work carried out at the head of the Mayor’s Office, in addition to thanking the hard work carried out by the local committee of the Canarian Coalition of the municipality.

The Secretary of Organization of CC de Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, highlighted that Pérez “represents the best project for the municipality and has a team that is an example of generosity, work and effort”. “Gustavo is a humble man, who lives for and for his neighbors,” Dávila said.
