The City Council of Puerto de la Cruz announces that in the next few days the swimming pools of the Costa de Martianez Complex after taking the decision, together with the winning company and in view of the poor state of the sea, to postpone until after winter the water works planned as part of the improvement and rehabilitation actions for the entire pool filling system, including It includes the actual replacement of the pumps in the Complex’s engine room.

The action, which has an award budget of 1,059,433.75 euros, provides for the modification of the seawater collection system, and for this reason and in order to guarantee greater durability of the elements that will be available, opted for the use of materials that have great durability against the aggressiveness of the marine environment.

In this way, a catchment tower made of marine reinforced concrete has been designed, which, with a base diameter of 4.5 meters and a weight of more than 40 tons, has catchment grids made of polyester reinforced with fiberglass. glass (PRFV), which have been fixed with stainless steel screws.

The use of these materials will guarantee greater resistance to the aggressive marine environment in which the new part is located.
Likewise, following this premise of improving durability, within the maritime phase, the change of most of the existing metal collection tube has been planned, and for this purpose GRP has also been used, having been designed and manufactured exclusively for this work the set of planned pipes, whose diameter is 1.4 meters. To fix this new pipe to the tower, as well as to the existing pipe, stainless steel accessories and screws will also be available.

For this entire operation, the special manufacture and transfer from the Peninsula of the concrete cage that will be the new filtering system has become necessary, to which the different pipes made of a material with special resistance to the action of the sea are added.

Regarding the work inside the engine room, the first action includes the demolition of the slab, and then, and once the civil works have been repaired, which shows a high degree of deterioration, to proceed with the renovation of the equipment and installations. The use of duplex steel in the manufacture of the new pumps stands out, which will guarantee greater durability of the new elements.
