The inhabitants of Santa Cruz de Tenerife committed to recycling will be able to obtain rewards from today every time they recycle their cans and plastic beverage bottles.

A note from City Hall of Santa Cruz de Tenerife indicates that this is possible thanks to the RECICLOS, Return and Reward (SDR) system developed by Ecoembes and to which the town hall has joined.

The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, along with other councilors from the government team and representatives of Ecoembes, presented this Tuesday this recycling system that rewards recycling citizens with incentives with which they can help improve the environment or help those who need it most, while continuing to promote the circularity of packaging, that is, giving them a new life through recycling.

In this way, the more than 208,000 residents of Santa Cruz of Tenerife they will be able to recycle their cans and plastic beverage bottles in one of the 980 yellow containers on the streets of the city -to which technology has been incorporated- and obtain rewards that they can donate to local projects such as, for example, the Ataretaco Foundation , which works to promote comprehensive training and social and labor integration of people in situations of social exclusion and care for the environment.

Likewise, RECICLOS users in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will also be able to contribute at a national level by allocating their RECICLOS points to create the first RECICLOS Forest, through reforestation and recovery of a degraded natural area, reports a statement.

In addition to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, this SDR has been present since 2021 in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, where residents with recycling can recycle their cans and plastic beverage bottles in the 316 yellow containers that are in the town.

To make use of this system, citizens only have to download the free RECICLOS app and, at home, scan the barcode of the can or plastic bottle they want to recycle before throwing it in the bin.

Once on the street, when they go to the yellow container with their bag of containers, they must deposit it there and scan the QR code on the container. By using the yellow bins, users will earn points, called RECYCLES, which they can exchange for the various rewards available to them.
