The Canarian Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment (ACPMN), belonging to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, has proceeded to fence and seal off an illegal subdivision of more than 150,000 square meters on rustic agricultural land in which, supposedly, , it was intended to urbanize by way of events, specifically, in the area of Lomo Negro, in the municipality of Arona.

This action has been possible thanks to the collaboration of this regional department, the local Police of the Arona City Council and the General Corps of the Canarian Police throughout the procedure, according to the information provided by the regional Executive.

hefty fines

The regional councilor responsible for the Area, José Antonio Valbuena, recalled that “these infractions can be sanctioned with fines of up to 300,000 euros in very serious cases, as established by Law 4/2017, of July 13, on Land and Natural Spaces Protected from the Canary Islands”.

These are three plots that are owned by the same company, which the Canarian Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment proceeded to seal off the entire affected area and, given that it is an alleged crime of “extreme seriousness”, recalls the ACPMN, It is possible that the case will be transferred to the Environmental Prosecutor’s Office, together with the corresponding technical reports.

coordinated action

This action arose as a result of a recent meeting between the Agency and the City Council of Arona, given the urgent need to fight in a coordinated manner against this type of action, for which not only the seller is responsible, but also the executor of said actions. subdivisions and the person responsible for possible illegal actions on said plot, who can be sanctioned for committing an administrative infraction and with the obligation to restore the altered reality, explains the Government of the Canary Islands in a statement.

The director of the Canarian Agency for the Protection of the Natural Environment, Ángel Fariña, recalls that the correct way to reclassify land according to current legislation is that established through planning and that “this type of maneuver aimed at conversion of land into developable by way of the facts, since they suppose a comparative offense and an injustice with respect to the citizens who do follow all the procedures and act in accordance with the law.
