The City Council of Garachico commitment to encourage electric mobility in the Low Island and announces the upcoming installation of six new fast charging points with the capacity to serve a dozen of these vehicles at the same time. The commissioning of these battery recharging points in the most touristic locality of the region will allow to fill a void that, at least for the moment, makes it difficult to use these vehicles in the northwest of the island.
The mayor of the Villa and Port, Jose Heriberto Gonzalez (CC)confirms that the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islandsthrough European funds Next Generationspecifically those corresponding to the so-called Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan“has accepted the proposal that we presented a few months ago and has decided to grant us a subsidy to promote the use of electric vehicles in the town”, both in the town and in the upper area.
This initiative is, according to González, the result of “a job that was entrusted to the two Canarian universities, through which we are going to install six recharging points for two vehicles each. They will be located one in the car park behind the town hall, another in the so-called Down Squarejust opposite the taxi rank, and another next to the Antonio del Valle Schoolin the old town. In addition, there will be another in the parking lot of the Cultural Center of La Culataanother in the parking lot of the viewpoint of The Guincho and the last next to the local police station in The Cove of Interian».
The two charging points located in the coastal area, in the surroundings of El Guincho and La Caleta (neighborhood shared with the municipality of the silos), will have the peculiarity that they will be self-sufficient, since they will be fed by photovoltaic solar panels placed on canopies.
The total budget for these works amounts to 258,828 euros. The Garachiquense City Hall contribute about 65,000 euros, since the subsidy granted by the Government of the Canary Islands, through the aforementioned European funds, amounts to 193,515 euros. That amount allows the locality to have almost 75% of the execution budget.
Joseph Heriberto Gonzalez advances that the work to enable these fast charging points for electric vehicles will be carried out “in the coming months”, which will allow the municipality of Garachico and the region of Isla Baja «take another step towards energy transition and sustainability».
Also in the Valley of La Orotava
The Los Realejos Council also recently announced an investment of 508,759 euros to create a dozen fast charging points for electric vehicles on public roads. They will be in Realejo Alto, San Agustín, Realejo Bajo, the Casa del Emprendedor, Toscal Longuera, La Cruz Santa, Palo Blanco, Icod el Alto, La Montaña and San Vicente.
