Construction work on the two new blocks of flats in the first phase of the Las Chumberas urbanization project is advancing at a good pace, so much so that this weekend one of the blocks has reached its maximum building height. Proof of this are the flags that fly on top of the building that show the work done. It is the building of the 79 dwellings, whose construction is more advanced than that of the block of 118 dwellings.

While work continues on a block with a larger number of houses, efforts will now focus on starting to dress the building whose structure is already finished, starting from the base to the top floor. As confirmed by the City Council, from now on, the progress in the works will be much more visible and it will also go faster.

The construction of these two housing blocks has also been affected by the international crisis, since the rise in prices and the delay in the arrival of materials has caused the forecasts for the completion of the works to be delayed by about three months, which will be throughout the second half of 2023 when they are terminated.

The demolition works of the ten blocks that made up the first phase of the project began in January 2021 and ended approximately a month later, after which work began to remove the rubble, excavate and dismantle the plots and, subsequently, those of foundations and to raise the structures of both buildings with the pillars and slabs.

TRACING

Last week, the monitoring committee for the replacement process of the Las Chumberas Urbanization held a working meeting with the participation of all the administrations involved, in order to analyze the status of the works, both in terms of the degree of execution and to its financing, and propose formulas to face the following phases. The meeting was attended by the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez; the Councilor for Municipal Cooperation and Housing of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Zebenzuí Chinera, and the CEO of the Municipal Housing Society of La Laguna (Muvisa). Telematically, the Director General of Housing and Land, Francisco Javier Martín Ramiro, and the Deputy Director General of Housing Policy and Aid, Anselmo Menéndez, intervened on behalf of the Ministry of Public Works. The director of the Canarian Housing Institute, María Isabel Santana, took part on behalf of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez emphasized “the high degree of commitment and collaboration between the four public administrations to complete the Las Chumberas replacement process. We verify that the works for the construction of the two new buildings of 79 and 118 dwellings maintain a constant rhythm of execution and that the financing is guaranteed, so that we are on the right path so that the entrance of the neighbors to their new homes become a reality as soon as possible.” The mayor also welcomes “the willingness of all parties to ensure that this process will continue.”
