More than twenty years of experience guarantee the quality of the North Tenerife Trade Fair, known as DiverSaldo. Its location, in the historic center of La Orotava, and the wide variety of its offer seem to be the key to its success, which was repeated this Sunday thanks to a great turnout of visitors and offers that won over buyers, such as footwear sports from just ten euros.
The helmet of the Villa of La Orotava, one of the most beautiful towns on the island, lived this Sunday a day dedicated to commerce. From 10:00 a.m., the surroundings of the streets of Puente Escultor Estévez, El Calvario, Avenida de Canarias, San Agustín and the central Plaza de la Constitución were filled with visitors. The Trade Fair of the North of Tenerife, known as DiverBalance, boasts of being the largest of its kind in the north of Tenerife. A title that was renewed yesterday, at least in terms of the number of buyers and passers-by.
In total, and according to the data provided from the Municipality of La Orotava, 60 shops of different types joined this meeting, each setting up a different stand with the best offers. The discounts are designed to attract both its regular customers and those arriving from other points in the north to the area. Although the morning dawned cloudy, the weather respected the celebrations.
In the area of the Plaza de la Constitución, stalls dedicated to the entertainment of the smallest of the house were installed. Table football, video games, face painting and even a mechanical bull delighted children and not so children. There was also no lack of balloon twisting by the hand of Mr You, the character that the young Christian Hierro has created to entertain boys and girls. «I used to work in show business on songs like Cantajuegos but I always liked balloons. It’s like creating the illusion of nothing and, little by little, it has become my profession », he explained while recreating a snake from a red balloon. Hierro is very clear about his hallmarks and, for example, he only works with animal figures because he doesn’t like “neither war symbols nor sexist toys.” In addition, he uses only biodegradable materials to encourage small environmental and sustainability values.
The offer in the stalls distributed throughout the hull was tremendously varied, something that characterizes a fair that has been going for more than 20 years being held successfully. Those who were interested could take home from a second-hand vehicle, to a basket of gourmet products, to a new remote for the garage door or a hairdresser’s shampoo. However, the busiest stalls were two: sports shoes and a well-known optician in the area that was overwhelmed by the queue of dozens of people wanting to get some good sunglasses. In addition, buying a pair of brand tennis shoes from 10 euros was a great attraction for the day.
The real estate offer was not lacking either. So the morning of shopping could be completed by getting information or references about flats and houses for sale. “We have always come to this fair and the truth is that in recent years we have given information that has finally become a sale on up to four occasions,” celebrated Stella Álvarez, from Century 21. “People lack information and that It is what we offer to facilitate a purchase, “he added.
The variety of positions Northern Balances Fair was confirmed, to give an example, with the presence of a stand of the Trujillo González hardware store, from Florida. Specialized in locksmithing and garage and vehicle controls, they have attended this meeting on several occasions. “The truth is that it does work for us to participate here because many people know us,” acknowledged the owner of the business, Diego Trujillo.
As it could not be less, gastronomy also had a leading role in this particular Orotavense Sunday. In addition to several confectionery and candy stalls, the presence of Depatanegra Ibéricos called attention. This establishment has two locations, one on the nearby Avenida de Canarias and the other on Santacrucera san clemente street. To encourage shoppers, they offered glasses of wine for €1.50 and plates of ham for just €5. “It’s a way of collaborating,” said one of its owners, Antonio Ponce. In addition to their usual products, they also appeared at the fair with information about their baskets of gourmet products, highly in demand now that Christmas is approaching.
The La Orotava Sale Fair was a pioneer in Tenerife and its main objective is to promote local commerce and “help the municipality’s merchants to sell out-of-season items and liquidate the stock they have”, detailed from the Consistory last month August, when the deadline was opened for businesses to join the initiative. Registration, stand and participation in the sample is completely free and the City Council also offers the necessary support to facilitate “that the shops of the Villa are present again with all the security guarantees.”
DiverSaldo has been conceived by the City Council of La Orotava as an “activity that stimulates economic activity in general” since the arrival of visitors throughout the day also benefited the bars, cafes and restaurants in the town.
