The Government of the Canary Islands yesterday gave its approval to the project to build a four-star hotel in San Miguel de Abona. The Governing Council approved the proposal for administrative authorization prior to the construction project of a four-star hotel complex, which will have 146 accommodation units and 292 beds. It will be built on José Miguel Galván Bello avenue in the Golf del Sur urbanization, with an area of 17,635 square metres.
This is a mandatory procedure at the request of the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce which, prior to authorization by the Cabildo de Tenerife, must assess whether the hotel project complies with the standards of building quality and energy sufficiency, as well as guaranteeing the minimum environmental impact, in accordance with the assumptions and conditions established in the Canary Islands Tourist Renovation and Modernization Law.
According to the documentation presented, the establishment is completed with areas for general use such as reception, restaurant area, gym, collective swimming pools, space for children’s outdoor play and facilities and services necessary for the hotel’s activity.
According to the project, at the eastern end of the plot it is planned to house a spa accessible from outside the complex, equipped with an entrance hall, pool area, massage cabins, Jacuzzi, sauna, Turkish bath and hydrotherapy showers.
In terms of energy efficiency, the building combines high interior comfort with low energy consumption through an excellent degree of insulation. In order to reduce energy consumption, its design maximizes lighting and natural ventilation. It will have a double control against solar radiation.
The Canary Islands Tourism Renovation and Modernization Law provides for granting prior authorizations for tourist accommodation places only in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife. It is a requirement for the consequent urban planning licenses, when their purpose is the construction of hotel and non-hotel establishments and when the territorial planning does not expressly prohibit them. They must meet certain parameters of building quality and service offered.
