From tomorrow, Saturday to the 23rd, Santa Úrsula celebrates its patron saint festivities in honor of Santa Úrsula, Virgin and Martyr, and Our Lady of the Rosary. The advertising poster, the work of Damián Rodríguez Álvarez, and the program of events were presented yesterday in the main church of the town, which was attended by the mayor, Juan Acosta; the parish priest, Sebastián García; the Councilor for Fiestas, José Feliciano López; and the designer of the poster, Damián Rodríguez Álvarez.
Tomorrow (8:30 p.m.), in front of the portico of the main church, the proclamation will be read, by Miguel Ángel Ruiz Fernández, a doctor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and an outstanding sportsman who last year was European champion in sport fishing, a discipline in which he has also been champion of the Canary Islands nine times and three of Spain. Next, there will be the presentation of the candidates for Children’s, Adult and Senior Queen, as well as the candidates for Children’s Mister.
Among the most outstanding proposals on the agenda that will take place in the festival venue are the performance of Pastora Soler (Tuesday 11, 9:00 p.m.) and the extraordinary concert for the twenty-ninth anniversary of the Ernesto Beteta Music-Cultural Association, which will be accompanied by Los Sabandeños (Saturday 22, 8:30 p.m.). Also noteworthy is the Grand Gala for the Election of the Queen of the Festivities, which will take place on Friday (9:30 p.m.) and will feature performances by the singer Lucrecia, the humor of Kike Pérez and the choreographic group Be wild.
Likewise, one of the most anticipated events will be the seventh breast cancer awareness gala I am one of them (Wednesday 19, 8:30 p.m.), which will feature several local soloists and a fashion show by cancer patients. Other galas to be held will be for children (Sunday 16, 5:00 p.m.) and for the elderly, which includes the Election of the First Lady (Monday 17, 7:45 p.m., Plaza de Santa Úrsula).
“Traditions and popular music have a great role in our municipality, as we have several groups that always find a place in patron saint celebrations,” said the Councilor for Culture, José Feliciano López. Thus, on Sunday the 23rd (8:00 p.m.), the 26th Anniversary Festival of the Chimaque Cultural Association will take place on the stage of Avenida de Las Palmeras. Next Wednesday the 12th, the Day of Traditions will be held, starting at 11:00 am, in the Plaza de Santa Úrsula, where the Traditional Music Show and Gastronomic Fair will be held. “There will be different stalls, where you can taste local products, such as wines, cheeses or typical sweets,” adds the mayor.
