SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct. 5 (EUROPE PRESS) –

Podemos Canarias has decided to “withdraw the support” that until now it provided to the government of the Cabildo de Tenerife, chaired by the socialist Pedro Martín, after a “chain of irregularities and violence” in the works of the tourist “macroproject” ‘Cuna del Alma’.

Laura Fuentes, autonomous coordinator of Podemos Canarias, has expressed her “disappointment” at what she has described as “a mixture of complicity and cowardice” of the island government in the face of the project, recalling that “the government of Pedro Martín openly expressed its support for some works that soon proved irregular”.

“Today, when Canarian society expresses its resounding rejection of the macro-project, the PSOE is trying to throw balls out and hit blind shots against Nona Perera, general director of Cultural Heritage and a member of Podemos Canarias, which has been the only public position that has taken action in the matter against ‘Cuna del Alma’. The level of disloyalty and opportunism of Pedro Martín is simply unfortunate, “he says in a note.

After having functioned as external support for the current insular government of the PSOE and Ciudadanos for the last three years, the purple formation considers that the events in ‘Cuna del Alma’ and Martín’s “attitude” towards the episodes of violence against the activists experienced in El Puertito during the last few weeks have meant the “irreversible loss of confidence” in the insular Executive.

In this regard, Cristo González, island councilor for the Sí Podemos Canarias coalition, affirms that at the time they decided to “give a vote of confidence” to the PSOE in a show of willingness to promote “progressive management for the island” but the balance after three years of mandate “is sadly negative”.

“We are facing a government that insists on formulas from 30 years ago when the citizens of Tenerife ask us to move towards the future,” he stresses.

For his part, David Carballo, also a councilor for Sí Podemos, has defined the party’s decision as “the logical reaction after three years fighting urban nonsense by a government that presented itself as progressive and has ended up falling into the logic of destruction that it said was coming.” to change”.

A GOVERNMENT THAT CONTINUES “OUTDATED PROJECTS”

In his opinion, “we are talking about a government whose main milestones have been to continue with expired projects, legacy of the Canarian Coalition and its 32 uninterrupted years of government on the island.”

At this point, the island councilors of Sí Podemos Canarias recall that since the beginning of the island mandate, the socialist Pedro Martín has promoted the port of Fonsalía, the Motor Circuit and the southern train, with “little progress in transparency, citizen participation, environmental care, mobility or clean energy”.

González and Carballo have agreed to describe these initiatives as “a symptom of the disconnection of the PSOE with the historical moment in which we live, which requires moving towards a production model of the year 2022, which is committed to sustainability, scientific development and public services, and overcome once and for all the unsuccessful model of urban planning and waste”.

In his opinion, “a 180-degree turn is necessary in the management of the island, which directs it towards a decent horizon and frees it once and for all from the clutches of destruction.”

Laura Fuentes concludes by stating that “Tenerife deserves a horizon of care, decent employment and sustainability” and for this reason they are going to work “every bit to build it”.
