The insular director of Patrimony, Emilio Fariña, stated that “the processes from the insular institution have been fulfilled diligently and in accordance with the law, reacting immediately to the complaint transmitted by the Teguico Association.
The Cabildo precautionarily paralyzed the works in the indicated area by the technical reports and, after being informed of the archaeological study, it was decided to adopt the precautionary measure on the area in which the damage classified as very serious against the archaeological heritage fell. By the way, a precautionary measure that, at present, is still in force.
Once this step has been taken, “and after having shown an affectation categorized as very serious, this file has been submitted to the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands, which is the body that has the competence to instruct the sanctioning procedures for this type of fault, as indicated in article 146.1 of the 2019 Law of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands”, he pointed out.
On the other hand, the director indicated that, “if the Sí Podemos Canarias formation is sure that the works can be paralyzed, it must apply the legal mechanisms to do so”, since, according to the 2019 Law of Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands, it is that General Directorate which is empowered to suspend the work within the framework of the sanctioning file that is instructing.
Fariña ends by affirming that “the representatives of Sí Podemos in the Government cannot play at being Government and opposition. They must assume responsibilities and not confuse the citizenry.”
