The Cabildo announced on September 9 that it will “rehabilitate” the section of road that connects the Autopista del Sur (TF-1) with El Puertito de Güímar. “This asphalt paving is a patch,” acknowledges the mayor of Güímar, Gustavo Pérez, who assures that currently “the deficiency and deterioration that the road presents are high and endanger the people who walk along its margins and the drivers” .
The councilor recalls that the work will consist of resurfacing the 1,022 meters that separate the highway from the South of the town of Güimarera, from kilometer 3,440 to 4,460 of the road that connects the urban area of the municipality with El Puertito. “We have transmitted the situation of this road to the Cabildo on numerous occasions.”
Residents, companies, visitors and the City Council «we were clear that it is an emergency and so we have transferred it to the Cabildo. This asphalt is a patch, “says the mayor. «The definitive action is to continue with the structure of the avenue that connects the town of Güímar with Puzol, which is a project that has been drafted». In this regard, he clarifies that “it is necessary to unblock the two expropriations that are missing so that the work of the avenue can be carried out” up to the coast.
El Puertito de Güímar is a privileged place in Tenerife, due to its conditions and location, defends Pérez, who recalls that El Puertito has more than 3,000 homes, 90 companies, one of the best beaches on the island, one of the entrances to Malpaís de Güímar… “That implies that we have to be demanding in requesting definitive works, not provisional solutions”, defends the mayor of Güímar.
But the project announced by the island government has another deficiency, according to Gustavo Pérez: «This work does not fix the pedestrian crossing that runs under the highway, a risk for users. It is another imperative need that, for security reasons, we ask the Cabildo to act quickly.
