The official chroniclers of the Canary Islands exchange their knowledge in Agüimes

The official chroniclers of Gáldar, Guía, Artenara, Tejeda, Arucas and Agüimes, in Gran Canariaas well as a representation of other municipalities of the islands, such as Teguise (Lanzarote), Güímar (Tenerife) or Santa Cruz de La Palma, among others, met this Friday in Agüimes to exchange knowledge and experiences regarding their work. The activity was organized within the framework of the Rosario festivities by the Municipal Council of Historical Heritage and was used by the delegation to Learn more about some of the heritage jewels that the historic center of Agüimes houses.

The chroniclers were entertained by their local counterpart, Fernando Romeroand for him Mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, who conveyed his appreciation to them for the important work they carry out, “a work of constant research into historical sources and an effort to connect the past with the events of the present which is essential to transmit our roots and our culture to the new generations”. The mayor received a plaque of appreciation from the Board of Official Chroniclers of the Canary Islands, gift that was given to him by José Luján, official chronicler of Artenara. Also at the event was Councilor for Culture, Historical Heritage and New Technologies, Francisco González..

The meeting also featured a dissertation by Faneque Hernández, writer, historian and member of the municipal council of Historical Heritage of Agüimes, whowho advanced the details of his Recent research on the origins of the patron saint festivities in honor of the Virgen del Rosario, established in Agüimes in the mid-seventeenth century. The work, still in progress, is expected to be published in the coming months.
