The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Juan Márquez, has responded to the Cabildo de Tenerife that it is “false” that the General Directorate of Heritage can paralyze the controversial work of Cuna del Alma, a tourist project in Puertito de Adeje that has two negative reports (from 2014 and 2017) and one sanction proposal by Patrimony.

“The Cabildo de Tenerife is the one who establishes the precautionary measures,” Márquez points out on his Twitter account where he points to the article where the Cabildo’s powers are collected, which “completely paralyzed the work and later lifted the suspension, less than 2% that affects property assets. That is when it is transferred to the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands that it is a very serious damage and is subject to the maximum sanction, ”he adds.
Attempts are being made to confuse it with the competences in matters of Cultural Heritage in #CunadelAlma.

“The precautionary stoppage of 2% already exists because the Cabildo itself ordered it. It will be permanent if the Cabildo also decides so within the established period when cataloging the patrimonial assets or initiating a BIC file according to its competence”, remarks the deputy minister, who also shares Law 11/2019, of April 25, on this social network. , Cultural Heritage of the Canary Islands and remember that Podemos proposes its modification to toughen its sanctions and provide us with greater protection tools.
This Friday, three activists against the works of the Cradle of the Soul tourism macroproject have been interrupted during the development of the plenary session of the Cabildo de Tenerife. “They have not listened to us for more than two months. If we are here it is because we can no longer. For this reason, we interrupted today in the Cabildo in front of the president, so that he listens to us for the first time”, María González, one of the protagonists of the event, shared on her social networks.
María José Belda, spokesperson for Sí Podemos, wanted to offer her turn to speak so that the activists could express themselves. However, the president warned that this action is not contemplated in the regulation. “If we do it, tomorrow any group or private person will say that they want to speak, and it is their right, but it is not coordinated like this,” he continued. Afterwards, he was called to the security guards.
Podemos Canarias has also reproached on its Twitter account that this Friday “something unusual happened: Pedro Martín, president of the Cabildo de Tenerife accused Nona Perera, general director of Patrimony of the destruction generated in El Puertito”, “The world upside down! ”, he added. For this reason, he pointed out in this social network that in May, the vice president of the Cabildo, Berta Pérez, inaugurated some works “that would not take a month to be stopped precautionary given their irregularities.”
The training indicates that on May 31, Cabildo personnel stopped the works as a precautionary measure and recalls that Pedro Martín himself recognized “very serious infractions.” In fact, the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage imposed the maximum possible sanction on the project; €600,000. “The suspension of the work ended up being limited to 2% of the works. From Podemos Canarias we have already requested to modify the law to be able to suspend it completely, ”he adds.
“The Cabildo and its Cultural Heritage Inspection must establish precautionary measures when protected heritage is destroyed. There was full evidence of what was happening there, although today some are trying to wash their hands, ”adds Podemos, who insists that the works must stop.
