The festivities of Christ star the weekend in the northern municipalities of Icod de los Vinos and Tacorontewho were forced to postpone their celebration due to the rains on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25. The acts begin this Saturday, October 1, but the big day will be in both cases tomorrow, with the solemn processions in which the population will once again show their fervor for two of the most revered images in the north: the Christ of Sorrows in Tacoronte and the Christ of Calvary in Icod de los Vinos.
The Municipality of Icod foresees for this Saturday traditional games, a flower workshop and bouncy castles, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in San Agustín street, and children’s activities, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres square, where there will be a world music concert. Starting at 7:00 p.m., in the church of San Agustín, Eucharist and subsequent procession of Our Lady of Grace. From 9:00 p.m., Night of Parrandas in the Plaza del Calvario, and Night of March, from 11:30 p.m., in Rambla Pérez del Cristo.
For this Sunday, October 2, the big day, transfer of the city’s banner at 10:30 a.m.; procession of Holy Christ of Calvary from 11:00 to San Marco Parish; Eucharist at noon, and return of the municipal banner. At 7:00 p.m., also in Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres, art party. Starting at 9:00 p.m., the return procession of the sacred image to its sanctuary from the main parish of San Marcos, with the popular fireworks of Christ.
In the case of Tacorontethe acts will begin this Saturday in the Plaza del Cristo around ten in the morning with the Encounter of Traditional Dances of Tenerife, which will serve to learn about the dances of the ribbons, rods and flowers from various places on the island. At 11:00 there will be a dance from the Plaza de Santa Catalina to the Plaza del Cristo and, starting at 12:30, there will be a presentation of the history of each dance. In addition, throughout the day there will be a women’s basketball tournament in the Pabellón Los Laureles and, at four in the afternoon, the Vuelta en Moto will start. At six in the evening, in the Saint Catherine ParishA Eucharist is planned. At 8:00 p.m., Burka Theater represents in the Capitol Auditorium the play chrysifixionand at the same time, again in the Plaza del Cristo, concert and paella with Got Soul and Ruky Beelaa.
There will be an Art Festival in the City of Drago and the XXXVII Tacorontera Craft Fair
This Sunday the Sanctuary of the Holy Christ of Tacoronte it opens at six in the morning to welcome pilgrims, most of whom have come from the South. At 9:00 there will be a mass and at 10:30 the so-called pilgrims’ Eucharist is celebrated. Around 11:45 a.m. the banner will be transferred from the House of Culture to the Sanctuary of Christ and, at 12:00 p.m. the mass of the Octave of the Cristo de los Dolores de Tacoronte, sung by the Santa Cecilia de Tacoronte Polyphonic Choir. At the end, the image will go out in procession accompanied by the Friends of Art Music Bands from Güímar and Santa Cecilia from Tacoronte. The religious festivities say goodbye with a final fireworks.
Between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, at the rear of the Tacoronte City Hall, a the XXXVII edition of the Craft Fair. In addition, during the Sunday session the women’s basketball tournament will continue in Los Laureles.
