Gran Canaria has the First and Third best chefs in the Canary Islands, from the Absolute Cuisine Championship. In the contest held within the framework of the Canary Islands Gastronomic Hall, 4 pairs of professionals participated, the winning result Richard D. Aguilar and Kilian Bórdelo (Casa Romántic restauranta) winners and thus becoming the Best Chef in the Canary Islands. “For me it is a source of pride and a reward for hard work. I opted for simplicity because, in the end, the simplest thing, and even more so in this type of competition, can be recognized,” says the head chef of the Casa Romántica restaurant who created dishes “Sea bass and cauliflower” Y “Potato and Chickpea”making a clear nod to traditional cuisine.
Through its Gran Canaria Me Gusta programme, promoted by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Crafts and the Gran Canaria Chamber of Commerce, the island is present at the 7th edition of the Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands, Gastrocanarias, with a 48-square-meter stand and the participation of chefs and a pastry chef in the contests organized at the event.
In addition, for greater joy, the third prize also went to Gran Canaria, specifically, for the chef Iván Pulido (executive chef of the MyM Group) and Daniel Castro (cooking teacher) who prepared the dishes “Sea Bass at its Roots” Y “From north to south”.
The second prize stayed in Tenerife, in the hands of the chef Ricardo De La Bella.
They were also finalists in this contest. Ruyman González and Willy Ramírez (Pícaro restaurant); Richard D. Aguilar and Kilian Bórdelo (Casa Romantica restaurant); and Francisco Pérez and Gamuro Verde (Hotel Escuela Sta. Brígida, Hecansa).
“For the Cabildo de Gran Canaria it is a pride that the talent of our professionals is recognized outside the island, since from Gran Canaria I Like It we have already been doing it because they are a very important sector for the island”, says Minerva Alonso, Minister of Industry and Commerce of the Cabildo de Tenerife and in charge of delivering the award.
Tomorrow, the Gran Canaria stand will offer a complete program of activities from 11:00 a.m. and chef Carmelo Florido (El Equilibrista 33 restaurant), accompanied by gastronomic critic Javier Suárez, will offer a talk entitled “The balancing act of cuisine canaria by Don Benito Pérez Galdós until the 21st century”, at 12:00.
