Dulce Cairós, new dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of La Laguna

The full professor attached to the Department of Public and Private Law and Company Law Dulce Cairós Barreto is the new dean of the Faculty of Law, who has recently taken office. She will be accompanied in office by Daniel López as Vice Dean of Academic Planning and Students; Luis Fajardo, as Vice Dean of Coordination, Communication and General Services; and Claudia Hernández, as Vice Dean of Quality and Institutional Relations.

Also part of the new dean’s team are Gregorio Alayón as Quality Coordinator, Irene Navarro as International Mobility Coordinator and Larra Melián at the head of the Tutorial Action Plan. Fernando Betancort will act as secretary of the center.

The new head of the center highlighted at the inauguration ceremony her gratitude to the outgoing team, headed by Aránzazu Calzadilla, for the support received at the time of the transition from one mandate to another and the good management carried out. The rector, Rosa Aguilar, welcomed the new team and encouraged them to take the reins of a center of great importance for the university and that has always exercised great leadership skills.

This is a two-year mandate, which can be renewed exclusively for an identical period. Among its main tasks will be the implementation of plans to improve the degrees, since the two accreditations of the degrees -Law and Labor Relations- have been passed, with the implementation of some modifications in the study plans to which also they have been given the go-ahead. It is not about in-depth changes, explains the dean, but about a better rationalization of the subjects to make them more coherent from the academic point of view and more adjusted to the reality of the legal world.

Another challenge for the new dean’s team is the management of external internships, given that it is a center that brings together more than 300 students in the last year of the two degrees. To this is added the modification of the academic calendar that means that this practical training must be completed by May 31. The dean assures that the number of companies and entities that welcome the students is still insufficient and in fact has been working for several weeks on the search for new organizations that are committed to the Faculty of Law.

In addition to the undergraduate degrees, the center offers the Official Master’s Degree in Law, the Official Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management and the Own Master’s Degree in Urban Planning.
