The plenary of Tacoronte City Hall approved on the morning of this Monday, September 26, an extraordinary and historic expenditure of 14 million euros, charged to local savings. This major budget change, which plans to allocate 7 million euros to paving roads, also sows doubts about the future of the municipal government. He went ahead with the support of New Canary Islands, Yes You Can and Citizens (Cs), which imposed an amendment to lower spending on Festivals and Commerce (areas managed by the Socialists) from 250,000 to 50,000 euros, what motivated the vote against the PSOE, which still governs together with NC and SSP.
Mayor, Jose Daniel Diaz (NC)showed his satisfaction after the plenary session and recalled that with this credit modification also goes ahead “the largest investment plan of the municipality in a single year and the largest employment plan ever executed, which will allow the hiring of 102 people for a year, thanks to an agreement with the Canary Islands Employment Service (SCE), which contributes 300,000 euros and the municipality, 1.4 million euros». This initiative will serve to hire works and services personnel, janitors for all the schools, administrative assistants and personnel for the Youth House and other areas.
Of those 14 million euros, most will go to investments, almost 11 million euros, of which 7 million will be for the asphalt plan for 92 streets in the municipality, and the rest for works such as waterproofing and improving the roof of the Municipal Market (170,000 euros); the project for the treatment of sports fields in schools (327,000 euros); the rehabilitation of the Plaza de San Jerónimo (497,000 euros); the roof of the House of Culture; the outer cover of the sports center courts, or the remodeling of the fighting ground in the neighborhood of La Luz (1.3 million).
Cs imposed its amendment to lower spending on Parties and Commerce, which broke the voting unit of the tripartite government
In the session the two amendments to the totality proposed by CC and PP were rejected. Only the aforementioned Cs went ahead, considering the amount destined to be excessive. Festivals and Tradeand planned to dedicate most of those funds (200,000 euros) to Social services. That amendment divided the vote of the government group (NC and SSP supported it, and the PSOE opposed it). Mayor, Jose Daniel Diaz, justified the decision on the understanding that “it was necessary to support this greater social aspect and save the modification with the greatest possible consensus.” Finally, the Socialist Municipal Group voted against its own budget modification, as did the two non-attached councilors Sandra Ramos and Carlos Medina, who have just presented We are Tacoronte. PP, CC and the other non-attached mayor, Candelaria Dorta, abstained.
Díaz valued that this credit modification “is a very important milestone, since we are achieving many issues that will affect citizens.” For the president, it is important to remember that “we are going to carry out, in a single exercise, the largest investment plan in history”, and that Those 14 million are part of “the savings of the tacoronteros and tacoronteras in previous mandates, which at my arrival exceeded 30 million euros and currently amount to 47 million. With this measure we are giving back to citizens their years of effort in the form of new and better infrastructures, public services and better care.”
