Throughout the afternoon-evening of today the City Hall of Candelaria has proceeded to evict the neighbors of the Playa Mar buildingwith four floors, at number 34 on Obispo Pérez Cáceres street, better known as La Arena street due to problems in the structure of the building, where works were being carried out on a pillar.
Since the morning the neighbors have been leaving the building voluntarily, but it was not until late in the afternoon, when the eviction decree arrived, that the houses and a Chinese bazaar on the ground floor were sealed by the Local Police.
In the morning, a municipal technician made a visit in which he verified “the poor state of the building structure” and issued a report stating that “the appropriate security measures must be adopted” such as “the eviction ” and the “Shoring of the structure. The decree also contemplates that a security perimeter must be created on the roads subject to pedestrian traffic of at least 2 meters.
In the building, works were being carried out for the structural rehabilitation of a pillar, whose license was required by the City Council.
For its part, the municipal Social Services have been pending throughout the day and in continuous contact with the Community of Owners offering provisional accommodation to those who have required it. According to the data provided from the cadastre, the building consists of 16 homes and 2 premises, one of them a well-known Chinese bazaar.
The mayor, Mari Brito, accompanied by the councilors of Social Services, Security and Works and Services, Olivia Pérez, Francisco Alonso and Jorge Baute, respectively, went to the area last night to accompany the neighbors, while the Local Police informed them the eviction.
The City Council has informed those responsible for the work and the Community of these circumstances and has urged them to act to resolve the deficiencies. Likewise, from the Consistory, the representatives of the Community and the affected neighbors are thanked for the disposition and understanding with which they have proceeded to vacate the property in an orderly manner.
