The Social Action area of the City Hall of Santa Cruz has launched this afternoon an emergency resource for homeless people, given the situation of maximum alert declared by the Government of the Canary Islands as a result of the strong rains which are expected to fall this weekend. These places are added to those of the hostel and are intended for people who usually spend the night on the street, and who, on this occasion, wish to take refuge from inclement weather in this space enabled by the IMAS.
The councilor for Social Action, Rosario González, explains that, in addition, “we have launched a protocol with the Mobile Approach Unit (UMA) and the Local Police to evict homeless people who may run some type of risk in the face of this meteorological phenomenon”. These are points such as the Santos ravine, in whose caves some of these homeless people regularly live.
