Extending the hours and increasing and improving the information channels of the service are improvements demanded by the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of the South of Tenerife (CEST) as necessary in public transportation by bus in the southern region of the Island. In addition to the increase in lines and hours, which provide coverage for workers who start or end their shift at night, propose the creation of new infrastructures for this type of transport.
It is the way for it to continue evolving, as a measure to favor its use in the area. It calls for measures that adapt the service to the needs of workers, residents and tourists, “in a way that allows them to access it easily and that complements the subsidies that the different administrations have put in place to encourage the use of collective transport.”
From the Circle they explain that there are several factors that dissuade potential users of the Tenerife bus service. “In the case of the south, the tourism sector is the main engine of our economy and the one that generates the most jobs; an engine that works 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but there are no necessary frequencies to meet the needs of the staff”, they clarify.
Based on this, they insist on the need to extend the hours of the buses, adapting them to the reality that exists in the region and contemplating the reality of jobs related to tourism and hospitality.
They also allude to the difficulties encountered by tourists regarding mobility. «Almost all the people who visit Tenerife end up using rental vehicles because they do not have enough information. The bus service, in addition to a good operation, needs adequate platforms that allow itineraries to be identified quickly and clearly, so that tourists can choose the most comfortable option to move from one point to another on the Island.
Before the summer, the CEST already collected this problem in its document Eight steps towards the future of the south, proposing, in addition to the increase in lines and timetables, the improvement of the infrastructures: «The Los Cristianos interchange is an urgent project, the users , both residents and tourists, need a comfortable space, well signposted and organized, with the necessary services that allow different types of transport to be combined».
