The Service for Attention to Women Victims of Violence SAMVV 1-1-2 registered a total of 1,411 calls during the month of August, of which 66% (929) were emergencies, since they represented an imminent danger for the victim, which meant 9 points more than in the month of July in which emergencies represented 57% of the total (768).
Of the rest of the registered alerts, 19% (263) were for information and 15% (219) for urgency – a subjective situation that requires attention, and may be prioritized -, reports the Government of the Canary Islands in a note.
In 74% of the cases, the aggressor was the partner or ex-partner, but there were also calls by other types of aggressors, such as the son in 3%, a friend in 1% and a stranger in 2%.
Regarding the age of the victims, 26 were minors and of these, 12 were under 16 years of age; 342 were women between the ages of 18 and 35; 344 from 36 to 55 years old; 65 from 56 to 75 years old and finally, 11 were women from 76 to 96 years old.
Regarding the type of violence, 48% were incidents of non-physical violence and 44% physical violence, of which 3% was physical violence with the addition of sexual assault.
Likewise, the councils’ emergency devices (DEMA) had to be activated on 185 occasions, which meant that 33 women with their 23 sons and daughters had to leave their homes immediately and stay in the insular emergency resources to protect themselves from your abuser.
About half of the calls, specifically 42%, were made by the affected person herself, 29% were accidental alerts, 19% an institution and 5% relatives.
By islands, the highest volume of calls was received from the island of Tenerife (651), of which 68.5% were emergencies (446).
Currently, the security forces maintain active in the Viogen system 4,755 cases of victims of gender violence in the Canary Islands –with data from July–, 58 of them at high risk and 615 at medium risk.
