The Council of Tenerife will promote local fishery products and the importance of this craft activity for the economy of the island in the 7th Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands, to be held in Fairgrounds of Santa Cruz de Tenerife from September 27 to 29.
The island councilor for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, explained that, in this edition, “from the Cabildo special emphasis will be placed on publicizing and promoting the consumption of local fishery products, although there will also be space for other fundamental products of our primary sector, such as wine, potatoes, extra virgin olive oil, fresh meat from Tenerife, cheese, avocado, gofio or honey”.
The activity program, designed jointly with Turismo de Tenerife, it includes 14 talks and culinary demonstrations on local products, 11 workshops and a wine tunnel, as well as tastings of fish products and the 3rd Tenerife Wine Taster Contest.
Javier Parrilla highlighted the importance of recovering this “great gastronomic event”, after it had to be postponed in 2020 and 2021 as a result of the pandemic, and recalls that “in this edition the number of installed stands is exceeded and also the number of championships of cuisine and beverages, which is a magnificent opportunity for citizens and professionals in the sector to value the high quality of our products and discover their many culinary possibilities”.
Regarding the program of workshops, topics such as innovation in restaurants, professional fishing in Tenerife, aquaculture fish, pelagic fish and old fish, and chocolate and tropical fruits will be addressed.
In the 17,000 square meters that will make up this show, the presence of 217 stands and 79 companies in the sector is planned. This year, in addition, La Palma will be the guest island, which will allow the attending public to learn more about the typical products, the emblematic recipes and the professionals of the Isla Bonita.
It is also worth noting the regional vocation of this fair, which for the third consecutive time will have the participation of each of the seven islands with their own exhibitors promoted by their respective island councils.
Two large stages will be set up at the event, one sponsored by the Cabildo de Tenerife, in which the cooking competitions will take place, and another by the firm Heineken, which drinks contests and the pizza championship will be held, as well as cooking workshops, master classes, culinary demonstrations, product tastings and commented tastings.
During the course of the 7th Gastronomic Hall of the Canary Islands, 11 major championships will be held, six in the cooking modality and five in drinks, in which representatives from all the islands will participate.
