SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 17 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The third vice-president and counselor of Social Action of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Marián Franquet, has held a meeting with different clubs and associations for the elderly in the northwest of the island to publicize the activities and services provided by the Island Corporation, within the Conecta program Seniors, in order to promote the well-being and quality of life of this group and which focus on prevention, healthy living and their integration into the community.

The meeting was also attended by the CEO of Citizen Participation and Diversity, Nauzet Gugliotta, and the insular director of Innovation, Planning and Strategy of Social Action, Ascensión Bacallado

On behalf of the elderly group, representatives of twelve associations and clubs for the elderly from the municipalities of Buenavista, Los Silos, El Tanque, Garachico, La Guancha, Icod de los Vinos and San Juan de la Rambla attended, who were able to contribute their proposals.

Marián Franquet recalled that through the Conecta Mayores program, new actions are being promoted to facilitate the active participation of the elderly population in society, among which the social tourism program, which is reactivated this year after the pandemic, and the Catalog of Services, in which you can consult the activities aimed at this group both from Social Action and from the rest of the Cabildo’s areas.

To this are added the specialized service points in the Cabildo Service Offices, which aim to facilitate the access of this age group to digital procedures, or the GAIA program, which pursues the empowerment of women over 65 years of age.

In the opinion of Marián Franquet, “it is very enriching to know first-hand the concerns, demands and preferences of the people to whom we direct our work because it gives us the keys to continue carrying out actions that are adjusted to the needs of the citizenship”. Thus, the Minister has announced that some aspects will be modified or expanded based on the proposals of the older people of Tenerife.

For his part, Nauzet Gugliotta, recalled that the Cabildo de Tenerife has paid this year one million euros in subsidies to the island’s town councils to promote leisure and free time activities. In this context, he highlighted that in the case of the municipalities of the northwest, these aids add up to 139,000 euros with which it is planned to promote about twenty actions for the elderly group during the last months of 2022 and 2023.

“The possibilities are very varied and many of these actions have already been launched that, beyond being a mere hobby, promote aspects that range from community life to intergenerational relationships”, commented the CEO.

Likewise, he highlighted other initiatives that will have a direct positive effect on the physical health of this group, such as sports activity or cognitive stimulation.

Ascensión Bacallado emphasized other initiatives that are being worked on to improve prevention and guarantee the quality of life of people in their environment, such as the Specialized Home Care Service.

The Cabildo de Tenerife plans to repeat this meeting with the associations and clubs of the different regions of the Island, with the aim of bringing this program closer to all the elderly and collecting their impressions, in order to continue improving and perfecting it.
