The CC-PNC group in the Council of Tenerife will propose the creation of a work table to decide on the management model of the Tenerife Aquatic Activities Center, being built in Puerto de la Cruz. The nationalist councilors Carlos Alonso, Verónica Meseguer and Diana Mora recently held a meeting with representatives of the federations, swimming clubs, water polo, rescue and first aid, triathlon, synchronized swimming, groups with disabilities and the hotel and tourism sector to learn about their proposals.
Diana Mora points out that she will present a motion in the next plenary session on the 30th with the aim of creating “a working group to decide on the use and management of the facility.” “We are talking about a center that is for the entire Island but that obviously has to take into account the Puerto de la Cruz clubs and the citizens, but also tourism.” Carlos Alonso recalled that the decision to build the Tenerife Aquatic Activities Center “was made in the last mandate and should have already been completed, but it has been delayed.” «At the time we could have opted for a normal pool, whose investment amounts to 4 or 5 million euros, but we wanted to make a center of quality and of reference both for athletes from here and for those who come from abroad. We are talking about an initial investment of almost 12 million and, according to the latest information we have, it will reach 14 million euros. We hope that it will be concluded as soon as possible and it is necessary to know what type of management it will have, “explained Carlos Alonso. For her part, Verónica Meseguer indicated that “it is necessary to study all management proposals, whether insular, municipal or if a public-private management is going to be carried out. They are unknowns that must be resolved and we believe that the parties involved must participate.
The Tenerife Water Sports Center is a space designed as a model, sustainable and approved facility for competitions of different aquatic disciplines, such as water polo, swimming, sports rescue or artistic swimming, among others. To do this, it will have a 25 x 25 x 3 meter deep pool, which can be registered, with overflows and suitable for warm-up and competition, a main pool 50 X 25 X 2/2.20 meters deep, which can also be registered, multipurpose and with glass of olympic swimming pool; changing rooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, cafeteria and a grandstand with capacity for more than 700 spectators and with sea views.
