Clavijo, in declarations to the journalists in La Palma, has responded like this when asked about the letter of the The Supreme Prosecutor’s Office that asks for his imputation for an alleged crime of continued prevarication committed between 2011 and 2014 when he was mayor of La Laguna (Tenerife) and signed the lifting of numerous objections against the opinion of the inspector.

The leader of CC has indicated that in the lifting of the objections, about 40, according to what he said, had the positive report of the legal services of the consistory and the management service, for which he was convinced that he acted correctly to give continuity to a series of affected public services.

However, according to the letter sent by the Prosecutor’s Office, there were “more than one hundred decrees issued to lift the objections formulated by the municipal intervention, thus revealing a reiteration in this practice both in the temporal sphere and in the material that denotes a generalized use. , habitual and not punctual, based on reasons of urgency and/or emergency, as the investigated party intends to assert for its justification.

The Prosecutor’s Office details that during the years 2011 to 2014 they were “extending and giving continuity to public service contracts, some of them millionaires, seriously contravening the Public Sector Contracts Law and the bases and specifications of the respective contests, despite to the forceful raparos formulated by the General Intervention” of the City Council of La Laguna. That is to say, the validity of important contracts was extended when their expirations and legal extensions arrived, avoiding calling competitions and always against the criteria of the municipal comptroller. The amount of twenty of them exceeds 60 million euros. This practice was also continued by his successor and last mayor of CC in the city, José Alberto Díaz.

Clavijo has indicated that among these contracts was the financing of supervised flats for women victims of sexist violence, fuel for the cars of the Local Police, the garbage service or expenses in the area of parks and gardens.

He has indicated that he does not know if it will be “coincidence” that it is the third time that a report from the Prosecutor’s Office is issued when an electoral process is close, in reference to the Case Cranesin which he was also denounced by the Avante councilor, now integrated into the PSOE, and current senator, Santiago Pérez, and which was finally archived.

Clavijo has opined that it was reasonable for the Supreme Court Prosecutor’s Office to maintain the same criteria as the Canary Islands Prosecutor’s Office and has recalled that now it will be the rapporteur magistrate who will decide if he is called to testify as under investigation.

In this regard, he has said that he wants to collaborate with the justice system and, if so, he would renounce the appraisal that corresponds to him as a senator to testify as soon as possible and explain that the processing of those files, which, as he has reiterated, was adjusted to law and Thanks to “the exemplary work” of the officials of the City Council of La Laguna, it allowed, he added, the continuity of essential public services.

Clavijo has pointed out that they were complex years, in the midst of an economic crisis and with a change in the Local Regime Law, but even so, he continued, an exemplary job was done.
