This has been transferred to the Board of Trustees by the third vice president and councilor of Social Action of the Cabildo, Marián Franquet, in a recent meeting in which she explained that the objective of this request is to be able to collaborate in the decisions that concern the management of this residence, informs this Wednesday the Tenerife corporation.

Another reason is “the need, as an institution, to monitor the public money that is allocated to this center and to know what aspects it is allocated to and what it is used for.”

Marián Franquet recalls that “an outstanding number” of the concerted places that the center has belong to the IASS, of which she is also president, and considers that the inclusion of the Cabildo in the Board of Trustees is “a natural step” in the management of the Foundation.

“From the Cabildo we seek to collaborate with the Board of Trustees to try to provide stability and help in everything that is in our power with the purpose of guaranteeing the well-being of users,” he explains.

Franquet insists that this request stems from the intention of “improving the service and care of the elderly cared for in this center.”

“We want users to enjoy the best conditions that can be offered and provide information so that their families can feel calm and know, at all times, the situation of their relatives and the service provided to them,” he says.

“It seems that Santa Rita has always been surrounded by a certain ignorance, which is why we want to participate in this Board of Trustees and facilitate direct communication between the team that manages the center and the citizens of Tenerife,” Franquet abounds.

After this formal and express request, the inclusion of the insular corporation in the Board of Trustees of the Fundación del Hogar Santa Rita is in any case in the hands of its members.

Last January, Court number 2 of Puerto de la Cruz opened proceedings on the management of this nursing home after admitting the complaint filed by the Prosecutor’s Office for alleged mistreatment of the elderly and the commission of a crime of reckless homicide.

The The original complaint came, in December 2020, from the staff of the Hospital de La Candelaria who worked in this residence, which has a capacity for 710 places, during the first wave of the pandemic due to the high number of COVID-19 infections registered in its facilities, both among workers and among users. days later, the The Ministry of Health of the Canarian Government ordered to intervene the residence.
