Somos Tacoronte presents itself as an independent party that was born “by and for the people”, with a “strictly municipal” vocation and as a consequence of the “drift” of public services and the “betrayal” of its voters by the three political formations that make up the current municipal government: the PSOE, Nueva Canarias (NC) “because of its lack of moral ethics and words and compliance with the pact”, and Sí se puede “because it has been part of a deception and a lie”.
This is how its general secretary, Carlos Medina, exposes it, the former socialist councilor who was expelled along with his partner Sandra Ramos for failing to comply with the party’s guidelines, which was committed to a pact with Ciudadanos (Cs), linked to the agreement in the Cabildo de Tenerife. Medina was destined to be the mayor for the last two years of this mandate, as a result of the tripartite government agreement signed after the 2019 elections, but he was prevented by his expulsion from the party.
Both are currently part of the Plenary as non-attached mayors and they are the ones who last month legalized the political formation that has more than 50 members, people “with experience, committed and who form a close organization” organized in a local executive and the maximum body that is the assembly.
We are Tacoronte wants to avoid that “the will of the neighbors is always in the background and is always submitted to the supra-municipal parties, to the continuous changes and to the pacts, that the only thing they do is harm the management of the City Council”.
Medina does not deny that “they have channeled many people who have withdrawn from the PSOE” and that they have wanted to join this new proposal “which points to optimism.”
His top priority is addressing the policies important to Tacoronte. That is why -he clarifies- he does not have as much an ideological vocation as the need to solve the problems that are already beginning to affect the city.
Among them, he cites the lack of management and proximity of the City Council towards the neighbors to be able to face policies that structure the development of a municipality such as the need for housing, cultural activities or the promotion of the commercial fabric, “which lead years in the political programs and that remain in the background because there has always been a continuous rivalry to take power quotas between the different parties and on many occasions, by agreements of other administrations.
The current Corporation is made up of six political parties, three of them in the Government, and two non-attached mayors. Somos Tacoronte aspires to be an option in the 2023 elections. Taking into account the local political situation, it is not unlikely.
