San Cristóbal de La Laguna celebrates this Wednesday, September 14, the festival of Christ, the most important day in the municipality in a year where, after the acute phase of the coronavirus pandemic, normalcy returns.
The last festivities have been carried out “with the restrictions that were marked and the hope of walking the streets again”, as the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, has explained. Now, “the big day of this town finally returns, with a city that wants to enjoy it.”
Gutiérrez has indicated that this Wednesday the parties that he himself has baptized as “the reunion” will reach their maximum expression: “All the events carried out so far have been a success, the capacity has been complete and the people have turned out”.
For his part, the president of the Island Council, Pedro Martín, who has also praised the return to normality, has highlighted that this is not only a special day for La Laguna, but for the entire island, “since many people from Tenerife they feel like theirs this celebration”.
Gustavo Matos, president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, was also present at the commemoration of this “emotional day of memories”, as he has defined it, “a day to value that we have recovered traditions and, although there are other challenges ahead, we have managed to leave the pandemic behind”.
The events scheduled for today have started at 10:00 with a civic-military procession.
Throughout the day there will be various Eucharists and the Return Procession; to which is added the traditional pyrotechnic display.
