Upon his arrival at the Cathedral, the solemn Quinario took place with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by the Bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, Bernardo Álvarez.
The venerated image will remain in the Cathedral until the next day 14, the great day of the Fiestas del Cristo, when, in the morning, it will return in procession to its royal sanctuary. In the afternoon, the campaign mass will take place in the atrium-square that precedes the royal sanctuary, presided over by its rector, Víctor Manuel Álvarez, and the liturgical-musical accompaniment will be provided by the Achamán Musical Group, Jovenes Sabandeños.
At the end, the procession of the venerated image will be held through the main streets of the city center, visiting the convents of the Poor Clare and Catalina nuns. Upon returning to the Plaza del Cristo, around midnight, the image will be placed to contemplate the traditional display of the Fires of the Risco.
silent fires
In this regard, from the City Council they highlighted yesterday that said exhibition will once again have silent fireworks. The initiative, which was launched last year, increases the time dedicated to this type of pyrotechnics to twelve minutes. Specifically, four companies will intervene, each with a 7-minute display of conventional fireworks, although of a smaller caliber, to reduce the noise impact, in addition to another 3 minutes of silent fireworks, each.
Both the mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, and the Councilor for Festivities, Badel Albelo, underline “the Government’s commitment to advancing in festivals adapted to people who are affected by the noise of traditional fireworks, and also sensitive to animal welfare, without losing the showiness that characterize the fires of Christ”.
Badel Albelo pointed out that “we want to continue betting on this type of pyrotechnics that focuses more on lights and colors than on noise”. And, as a novelty, he announced that this year there will be “a contest among the participating pyrotechnics.”
