The plenary session of La Laguna yesterday unanimously approved a motion in which it was agreed to “urge the Cabildo de Tenerife and the Canary Islands Government to carry out the study so that, from this moment and until December 31, 2022, public passenger transport vouchers, both for Titsa and Metropolitano de Tenerife, are 100% discounted for island residents, with the same conditions in terms of use and management offered by the State”. To this is added that the Island Corporation, “based on the provisions of article 44.1.c of the Canary Islands Transport Regulation Law, proceeds to apply a 100% reduction in the cost of island transport, both in buses and in the tramway”. This is reflected in the text agreed between the different groups from two motions presented by CC and PP and with amendments added by the local government.
Likewise, the two administrations are urged “to study and change as many regulations as are necessary so that the 100% discount on public passenger transport can be maintained as of January 1, 2023.”
In addition, the Cabildo is asked to “claim from the Government of the Canary Islands, and this, in turn, from the Government of Spain, financial compensation for the cost of offering our citizens this bonus.” And it is requested that “the singularities of the Canary Islands be addressed, also paying attention to the socioeconomic figures so that the Government of Spain extends free public transport to the island territories that do not have commuter train service, extending its duration which be necessary”.
Likewise, it urges “the necessary legal modification so that the municipalities can apply and expand free formulas in urban public transport to favor the abandonment of private vehicles”, among other points of the approved agreement.

For its part, the PP presented a motion urging the State to make a series of legal modifications and measures against illegal occupation, which was rejected, instead approving an amendment by the government group in which it is committed to continuing to work to expand the municipal public housing stock, support the development of the State Law for the Right to Housing and urge the competent administrations to search for alternatives that avoid practices that favor speculation in such an important matter as housing, among other points .
