The President of the Canary Islands Angel Victor Torresattended this Wednesday morning at the relief descentpilgrimage of the Tenerife municipality of Guimar that welcomes pilgrims from all the islands and that happens to be one of the oldest traditions of the Archipelago.
In statements to the media, he welcomed the fact that, after the limitations due to the pandemic of the covid-19this year the descent and ascent of the image of the Virgen del Socorro from the parish of San Pedro Apóstol to the hermitage of the neighborhood will run completely normally, as has been happening with other popular festivals on the islands for much of this 2022 .
Torres highlighted the popular and participatory character of the ‘Bajada del Socorro’ which will conclude this Thursday afternoon with the return of the religious image to the church of San Pedro.
The president highlighted the good weather that accompanied the entire celebration this morning, “with sun but not too hot”, as well as the fact that “pilgrims and pilgrims from all over Tenerife and the rest of the islands” attended, whom he invited ” to live the tradition with greater intensity because today it is done after gradually beating the pandemic”, collects a note from the Executive.
Torres attended this pilgrimage after attending the central act of the ‘Columbian Days in La Gomera’ on Tuesday and this Thursday he will participate in the ‘big day’ of the Fiestas del Pino, in Teror (Gran Canaria).
