The Island Government Council approved that the Mobility area of the Council of Tenerife invest 562,669 euros in the improvement of 25 bus stops. One of them is located in the municipality of Candelaria, while the rest are located in Granadilla de Abona. The execution period, once the project is awarded, is five months.
Specifically, the bus stops that are the object of this intervention are located on the banks of the TF-252 island roads, which run from the general highway of the South (TF-28) to the town of Igueste de Candelaria, as well as on the TF -64, which connects the urban area of Granadilla de Abona with the coastal area of El Médano, and the TF-643, whose route runs from the latter town to Los Abrigos, also in the municipality of Granadilla.
The First Vice President and Island Councilor for Mobility, Enrique Arriaga, explains that The objective that drives the development of this project “is to improve accessibility to public transport and their safety, as well as making them more comfortable for users».
The works
With this premise, Arriaga Álvarez announces that «for this, Important interventions will be carried out” at most of the bus stops. The works will consist of carrying out the extension of the entrances and exits of the vehicles of the stops, proceed to widen the sidings and sidewalks, undertake the placement of buttoned pavement and create accessible pedestrian itineraries. The insular counselor for Highways clarifies that, in some cases, “the canopies will be relocated or rehabilitated, the placement of ischial supports (for the back of the person, at the height of the hips) will be faced and, also, the stop of new street furniture», he adds.
The insular director of Roads, José Alberto León, specifies that there are around 4,000 stops distributed on Tenerife’s road network, of which more than 300 register high use. He recalls that during the current legislature, the Cabildo’s Mobility area “has not stopped acting on them, making a significant investment to achieve it.” León emphasizes that with this type of plans and projects “it is about making public transport more attractive and comfortable for users.”
It should be remembered that In August, the Cabildo put out to tender the improvement of the accessibility of the 66 bus stops on the southern highway (TF-1)from Santa Cruz to Adeje, a contest endowed with an amount of 555,607 euros.
