All traditions return to the Fiestas del Cristo del Calvario in Icod

Icod of the Wines live a long-awaited edition without health restrictions of its Festivities of the Holy Christ of Calvarywhich recover all the traditions, such as the festivities in honor of the Virgin of Angustias and the Virgin of Grace, and include an extensive program of events until next October 10. For the Mayor of Icodense, Francis Gonzalez (CC)are dates of “tremendous illusion because at last the Festivities of Christ are celebrated without limitations, although we must continue to take care of ourselves because the pandemic is still there, we can now live and celebrate in another way.”

Tomorrow, at 9:00 p.m., Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres will be the scene of the election gala of the queen of the Fiestas del Cristoduring which the singer will perform Soraya. Then, Night of March Fiestas del Cristo 2022 on the Rambla Pérez del Cristo.

This Saturday the 10th will be the second Condumio Rabbit Contest. In the Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres square there will be children’s activities from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and, in the afternoon, the grand gala for the election of the children’s queen (7:00 p.m.). At night it will be the scene of the hat party, with performances by the Maracaibo and Guayaba orchestras (starting at 10:30 p.m.). The Plaza Luis de León Huerta will host the presentation of the Discount Fair (11:00 a.m.) and the Cultures of the World: Japan and Argentina concert (11:30 a.m.). This Sunday the 11th continues the second Condumio de Conejo Contest, the traditional exit of the Devil and the Diabla de Las Angustias (starting at 4:00 p.m. in the Plaza de Las Angustias), and starting at 7:00 p.m., processional transfer of the sacred image of Our Lady of Angustias to the Matriz de San Marcos Parish. Upon arrival, Eucharist and, at the end, return procession passing through the Tránsito hermitage.

Other notable events will be Jazz Night with Rogelio Botanz and Eduardo Rojo & Metamorphosis Big Band, on Wednesday 14 at 9:00 p.m. in Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres; the VI Memorial Pepe Floro 2022 Night of Boleros, with the performance of Carla Vega, Marta Bolaños and Fabiola Socas, with the same schedule and setting, but on the 15th; the performance of Omayra Cazorla and Mel Ömana at 10:00 p.m. on Friday 16 in the Plaza de América and, later, March Night on the Rambla Pérez del Cristo. On Saturday the 17th, also at 10:00 pm in the Plaza de América, a youth concert with a performance by Las ninyas del coro and La Mala Rodríguez. At its end, another March Night.

On Sunday 18, in the Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres square, music band competition, with a performance by the Nueva Banda, from Igueste de Candelaria; AM San Sebastián, from Tejina, and AMC José Manuel Cabrera Mejías, from Icod de los Vinos (at 1:00 p.m.). From six in the evening, children’s festival.

Wednesday the 21st will take place Sustainable Mobility Day, a call for groups, athletes, boys and girls, “and everyone who has a bike”, to pedal through Icod from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., the Plaza de América hosts the day of coexistence of children and youth Peace and Climate Change.

On the 22nd, Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres will host, starting at 9:00 p.m., the concert of the 50th Anniversary of Los ChincanayrosWith the performance of Oroval. The next day, with the same time and stage, a concert by Santiago Auserón.

On Saturday 24 the Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres hosts children’s activities, the celebration of the world tourism day, and, from 10:00 p.m., a concert by the Mondragón Orchestra. Before, at 6:00 p.m., in the church of San Agustín, the Eucharist is celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Grace, in which the mayor will renew the vote to which the City Council committed itself 209 years ago “for the miracle worked for the extinction of a locust plague”.

ANDhe Sunday, September 25, will be the big day of these festivities, which will begin at 10:00 am with the Diana Floreada and the subsequent transfer of the banner of the city, accompanied by the local Corporation. At noon, Eucharist sung by the Liceo Taoro de La Orotava Choir and, at its conclusion, transfer of the banner. At seven in the afternoon, Plaza Andrés de Lorenzo Cáceres hosts the Great Literary-Musical Festival of Art, with Espido Freire. The Emeterio Gutiérrez Albelo Poetry Prize will be awarded and the string quartet will perform Velut Umbra, Tempus Cello Ensemble and Pasión Vega. At 9:00 p.m., procession of Christ’s return to his Sanctuary. At the exit, fireworks.

The events will continue in the following days and on Friday, September 30, the Plaza del Calvario will host, at 9:00 p.m., the Proclamation of the Eighth, with the musical performance of In Piano and a tribute to the flower girls. At 10:30 p.m., Los Vándalos will perform, followed by the Eighth March Night 2022. On Saturday, October 1, there will be, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., children’s activities, traditional games, a flower workshop and bouncy castles in San Agustín street and, at the same time but in Lorenzo Cáceres square, the I Women and Sport Fair. At 1:00 p.m., in Luis de León Huerta square, closing of the II Condumio de Conejo Conejo Contest and a master class on its preparation. At 9:00 p.m. in the Plaza del Calvario, Parrandas Night and subsequent dance.
