Sí Podemos Canarias demands the stoppage of works in Puertito de Adeje

Sí Podemos Canarias has called on the president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, “to order the immediate suspension of all work on the Cuna del Alma project” for “the conscious and intentional destruction of archaeological heritage in the area, causing irrecoverable damage to archaeological sites Guanches”, especially after the Government of the Canary Islands has imposed a fine of 600,000 euros on the company promoting said action (Segundas Casas Adeje SL).

The formation has recalled that on August 24 it registered a letter asking the Presidency of the Cabildo to comply with “this demand for urgent suspension”, since it considers “intolerable that Pedro Martín continues with his arms crossed in the face of the palpable natural, patrimonial and social attack that is assuming this new predatory project of the territory for the defense of our land and biodiversity”.

The insular political group considers that “it is a lack of respect for the citizens of Tenerife that our historical and cultural heritage has been intentionally destroyed, as recognized by the General Directorate of Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands.”

In addition, it recalls that “both in 2014 and 2017, two unfavorable reports were issued from the Administrative Service of Historical Heritage of the Cabildo de Tenerife, warning that the relevant archaeological inspection had not been carried out in relation to this work ” .

However, Sí Podemos Canarias recalls that the approval of this action occurred “at the end of the last mandate, under the direction of the corporation by CC with Carlos Alonso as president”, to which the island group adds that “this does not exempt , not at all, of responsibility to the current group of Government, who has allowed the destruction that this harmful project implies to continue “.

It also points out that “to this reason, more than enough reason to stop this attack, it is added that specimens of other protected species have been identified in the area that, until now, were not contemplated in the environmental report approved on March 6, 2018 by the now extinct COTMAC (Commission for the Planning and Environment of the Canary Islands), such as the Echium triste, known as the sad viborina or tajinaste del cardonal, as it is a species under a special protection regime”.

Sí Podemos Canarias declares that the sanction of 600,000 euros imposed by the General Directorate of Patrimony of the Government of the Canary Islands, the maximum contemplated for infractions against the patrimony classified as very serious, must suppose “a new step to advance in the decision to paralyze definitively this crazy project, so that it is totally discarded”.

In relation to this, the political group adds that it is also necessary to “investigate the economic interests of the parties involved in this work and that may have direct links with political parties present in the island’s institutions, who are pressing for this destructive macroproject go ahead”.

In this sense, Sí Podemos Canarias highlights that Andrés Muñoz, director of the Cuna del Alma project, “was manager of the public company Metropolitano de Tenerife since the company was founded, under the mandates of CC at the head of the Cabildo.”

Finally, the party appreciates and supports “the great work they are doing, especially the people who are camped in Puertito de Adeje and who have come to risk their health and physical integrity on a daily basis to demand that the Law be complied with, avoiding the progressive destruction of our land. The insular group affirms that “it is worrying that we always have to reach a situation in which, if the population does not literally intervene to protect our territory, these crazy projects will not be stopped.”
