The municipality of La Orotava It already has a new parking area near the urban center of the Villa, specifically in the Lercaro Urbanization. The space, of about 5,700 square meters, is divided into two terraces (one of more than 2,300 square meters and the other of more than 2,200), in which, after the corresponding signage, about 170 seats are available.
The mayor, Francisco Linares, appreciates that this new surface can be counted on so close to the historic center and the commercial area, offering comfort and operability to residents and visitors. With this action, it contributes to the local economy as it encourages the approach to the establishments and gastronomic spaces of the town, tourist visits, and the fact that citizens can park just a few minutes away to carry out their business, walk or buy.
In this sense, it must be taken into account that in addition to the historic-artistic center, in this area there are the courts, the Town Hall, the parish of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, the municipal cemetery, the Rafael Arozarena Secondary School (IES) and other entities and spaces of interest to all.
In this new area, work has been done on the adaptation of the land, asphalting, provision of lighting and signage. And in the future it is planned to include a recharging area for electric cars in this space.
In addition, this space will be available to residents and groups, so it will be multifunctional for recreational, cultural, educational and sports events such as open-air cinema, concerts and fairs.
The project has involved an investment of 225,000 euros, 80% of which was covered by the Consistory with its own resources, and the Cabildo took charge of the remaining 20%.
The island councilor for Employment, Socioeconomic Development and Foreign Action, Carmen Luz Baso, stressed that the funding with which this project has been provided “is part of the actions promoted by the Cabildo to help boost the activity of small and medium-sized businesses in urban centers, which have great weight both in the economy and in employment in many municipalities on the Island.”
In addition, he announced that in the coming weeks a new call for aid will be launched aimed at the reconversion of retail trade, which Tenerife establishments will be able to take advantage of.
Other parking areas
Linares announced that the City Council is working to create other public parking areas that are close to the urban center. Thus, the acquisition of some land on Mercedes Pinto Avenue, close to the building of the Los Cuartos Neighborhood Association, is being managed in order to create some 180 new places. This project will involve an investment that will also be around 200,000 euros.
